Shadow of the Raven? |
Lead | ||
|
I'm not sure if it was safe of Joseph to name a future CD given some certain circumstances, but nevertheless, apparently going to come after Blood of the Dragon is Shadow of the Raven...which is going to be a musical tribute to EA Poe. This provokes a certain curiosity in me...I can't imagine what it might sound like to match Poe's haunted and warped atmosphere, but I am anxious to hear a musicial adaptation of my favourite author's stories. Thoughts on this anyone?

*Chuckles*
I am sure that if Joseph felt uncomfortable naming a future project, or letting the fans know the name presently, he would have held back a while longer. I'm sure everything will be okay |

And I think there is a picture (sticker?) of a raven (you know, the one with nevermore written under it) on the monolith site that would be perfect for a cover.

I recall that sticker image. I think it's a t-shirt also. Whatever the cover design ends up being, I am certain it shall be beautiful. I imagine something dark with a regal majesty... I visualize an intrigue, a sense of mystery and power within the image.

I was hoping they'd do a Poe album sometime soon. It's sort of a given though. And Poe is a very obvious choice. I would personally love to hear a reading of The Raven by Joseph with appropriate music.

*Rubs my hands together with anticipation, grinning like the cat that just ate the canary.*
*Ponders* I wonder if I should call that "the Gryphon smile". Nox Arcana's music paying fitting homage to a master of macabre literature. Oh yes, I do look forward to it. |

*Wanted to take a moment to send out a very special shout-out...*
Happy Birthday to Edgar Allan Poe. Soon enough, in your memory and honor, the Raven shall fly once again. |

Oh, I cant believe that I missed Poe's birthday. Did you do anything special to celebrate?
We will have to remember to do something really special in 2 years for his 200th birthday. |

A special commemoration? Alas, no. I would not have know the 19th was Poe's birthday if it had not been for a message/bulletin I received from a friend (Michelle Belanger) on my MySpace page.

If THAT happens, two things: 1) Save me a ticket 2) Sign me up for the DVD release. |

I love listening to Nox Arcana's while I'm reading or drawing. It puts me in a dark mood and inspires me. I really love listening to Transylvania when I'm reading and Darklore Manor and Carnival of Lost Souls while I'm doing artwork. Blood of the Dragon is Great too, especially the song Mist Loch. That one gives me chills when I hear it.
Any news on Shadow of The Raven? I got a book of Poe stories and poems for Christmas, but I'm saving it for when the cd comes out. |

Hello Sassy. It's been a while. I hope you are well. I know what you mean about Nox Arcana's music. To me, they are the undisputed reigning kings of the Gothic Horror and Fantasy soundscape.
Their music has been a big inspiration for my most recent poetic work. I predict at least a few more in the future. Their music never fails to inspire, and to excel. As for news on Shadow Of The Raven, I fear I don't have any to give. I do however, have a prediction to make. I predict a beautiful haunting masterpiece of work. I too have a collection of Poe's poetry and tales. It's a beautiful book courtest of my brother's girlfriend last Christmas. I've not read much of it yet, but I do admire his work and I am excited to see what Nox Arcana will craft as a musical counterpart to the beautiful written works. Best, John (JCRME) |

I too await with great anticipation this new album. To imagine two artist of astounding dark beauty and grace together sends chills down my spine. I also have "The Collected Works of Edgar Allen Poe", I have had it for some length of time now, and it is one of the few books that I have that I make it a point to read over and over. Shakespeare and Poe were, and are two of my highest inspirations in writing. Poe above all of course :P. This album is like a devilish dream come true!
As for the thought of a concert on Poe's 200th O_O. *agree's with the notion of a 'backstage pass'* *swoon* |

According to my calculations, Sassy, Shadow of the Raven will be out in a few months--May, most likely. |

Re: Shadow of the Raven? | #17

I would lean towards May myself. I figure that's a safe bet. It would be about 'normal' for them at the current pace, since Blood Of The Dragon came out in November, figure five-six months ago. I tell you, I've never seen ANY band in genre produce such quality material SO quickly. Every CD is a gem and they just get better. For Shadow Of The Raven, as I dared to say before.... I am 'feeling' and predicting that it will be a beautiful and darkly elegant work... steeped in 'antiquity'
Joseph has said that ( a quote from the News section) " The music will be haunting and darkly romantic with sinister overtones, along the lines of Darklore Manor and Transylvania." Perhaps he means the feelings the music will try to convey is almost like a 'blend' of those two CD's in terms of emotion and feel? For me, to blend those two in terms of emotion and feel and sound , in the way that only Nox Arcana can, will produce a lovely work even greater than both in terms of allure and musical power that is fresh and invigorating and a real treat to listen to. |

Although I don't own Darklore Manor yet, I do own Transylvania, and if Shadow of the Raven sounds at all like that album, I'll buy it as soon as it comes out. Transylvania is a masterpiece, even for Nox Arcana. Seriously, "Transylvania Overture" and "Castle Dracula" in particular are sonic beauties of Orphic proportions.
But back to Shadow of the Raven--do you think each piece will retell a different poem or story, or will the tracks all be interwoven into one intricate Gothic tapestry? I predict the former, but I could be wrong. Then again, I hope I'm right; I'm looking forward to hearing audio versions of "The Masque of the Red Death" and "The Black Cat." I also think "The Raven" would be a good choice for an introductory narrative track. |

Re: Shadow of the Raven? | #19

Yes, Transylvania is a masterpiece. I love the two tracks you mention, as well as The Voyage, The Black Coach, Night Of The Wolf, Shadow Hunters, and many more. Aye... all the tracks are beautiful in their own ways.
If you do not own Darklore Manor yet, I humbly suggest that you go directly through Monolith Graphics to get it, so that you can be certain to get the remastered version of the CD. It is well worth the purchase. Back to Shadow Of The Raven.... I cannot say. I too would suspect that different tales from Poe's work will get musical homage paid to them. That may not be the case for every track on the CD, but I think you have made at least a fair assumption. Of course, only Mr. Vargo and Mr. Piotrowski know for certain where the CD is headed. I do predict, though, another masterpiece, steeped in rich atmosphere and beautiful haunting feeling. That's what they do, and Nox Arcana are, to me the BEST hands down at what they do. |

Shadow of the Raven has me VERY excited. I'm a big Poe fan (even have the action figure). I can't wait to see what our friendly neighborhood Nox Arcana do with his words and imagery . . .
